Publish a Web Page

Information on how students can create a webpage for personal and academic use.

1. Read the North Central College Personal Web Page Policy.

2. Make your pages. North Central College's official personal web page editor is Nvu, which can be found in all of the College's computer labs by going to Start/Network programs/Nvu, or you can download it (free!) to your own computer.

Alternatively, you can also code your pages in XHTML directly.

3. Place the following disclaimer on all personal pages:

The content and opinions expressed on this page belong to (your name) and are not endorsed by North Central College. The College accepts no responsibility for the contents of these pages.

4. Save your pages to your W:\ drive.

5. Your pages will be published at:

Students:
http://firstname.lastname.students.noctrl.edu
*Your first and last name as printed on your student id.

Note: If two or more students have identical first and last names, their web page address may vary.

6. If you would like your pages added to our index pages:

Student Index

Faculty Index

Staff Index

save this file (publishme.txt) to W:\. To do this, right click on the link and choose Save Link As. If you would like to be deleted from the index, simply remove the publishme.txt file from your W drive. Insertions and deletions from the index will take place every 24 hours.

Tips and Tricks:

  1. Always use lowercase for all of your file names and links.
  2. Use relative links to refer to your local pages.
  3. Name your homepage index.htm or index.html.
  4. For help, call the ITS Help Desk, at ext 5440.
  5. To check your available space on the W:\ drive: Double click on the My Computer icon on your desktop. Right click on the W:\ drive, choose Properties.
