Secure Password Tips

Passwords are an important part of online security. Creating a strong password helps stop hackers from gaining access to your personal information. Here are some tips to help you create a secure and easy to remember password. These tips can be applied to any password protected account not just for your North Central College accounts .

Strong Password Tips:

  • Don't use personal information that is easily accessible, such as your name or birthday.
  • Select a password that is at least eight characters in length
  • Using uppercase letters along with lowercase letters and numbers makes your password significantly more secure.
  • Use multiple passwords for multiple sites. Do NOT use the same password for your email and your bank account. If your email account becomes compromised, then your bank account is also compromised.
  • Use phrases that are significant to you instead of random letters and numbers. You are more likely to remember a significant phrase than a randomly generated password. Use spaces or dashes to separate the words in the phrase.
  • Try not to write down your passwords. If you have to write them down, do not label them as passwords and keep them somewhere secure away from your computer.
  • NEVER share your password with anyone or send your password via email
