ITS UPDATE: Long Distance; Office Hrs/Class Sched Import Updated

Long Distance
Do you think Microsoft's announcement of Windows Mobile 6.5 phones has anything to do with our long distance problems---or is it just coincidence?

Yesterday morning faculty and staff were not able to make long distance call; actually they couldn't this morning either.  Our long distance services involve three telecommunications companies: Siemens, AT&T and Excel (who recently purchased Vartech).  We have been working with all three of these companies and have yet to find a solution to the problem.  We have had a Siemen's System Engineer on site since last night, in fact, he is still here.  Data cards were replaced and that did not solve the problem.  Excel has made a major change to their system that might be causing problems and then again AT&T is digging up and laying an opti-man circuit in for District 203 in a man hole on campus.  We need to examine all of these possibilities.

A temporary fix has been put in place so that long distance calls can be made, but they will be more costly because they are running over local lines.  In-coming long distance calls are no problem.  However, 800 number in-coming calls cannot be received. We will work on these problems until they are resolved.

Office Hours/Class Schedule Import Updated
If someone was doing a "busy search," the only items that showed on the calendar were items that were manually entered.  To remedy this issue, the "office hour" import function and the "class schedule" import functions in Merlin have been updated to import these items as 'busy'. All new items imported will be 'busy', but existing items need to be manually changed to 'busy' or deleted and re-imported.

You can manually  change them to 'busy' by selecting the appointment, right clicking and selecting 'Show Appointment As' -> Busy. In some views it will say 'Show As' -> Busy.  Please ensure that you select 'All instances.'
