ITS UPDATE: Weekend Woes; LabStats
|
Weekend Woes
It started with the last minute loss by The Ohio State University Buckeyes to the USC Trojans. We were among the 106,038 record attendees and as depressed as the rest of my fellow Buckeyes at games end. That was enough to wreck my weekend. When we got back Sunday there were a bevy of emails to the Help Desk about technology not working--- no internet, no web mail. I called several staff members and by late Sunday afternoon DHCP, DNS, (these are tech acronyms we use to keep you confused) and web mail were restored to working order. Then the Bears also lose in the last minute; I have nothing else to say.
LabStats
ITS has installed a program call Lab Stats, which students or staff can use to view the status of every computer lab in real time. When you click on the link "LabStats" located on the Resources for Current Student page under Online Resources, it will take you to a LabMaps page. This page has all the labs listed and when you click on a link you see a map of computers in the lab and if they are being used. It will tell you how many computers are in the lab and how many are available for use. For instance, this is a snapshot of the Boiler house at 11:30 am today.
Gray colored computers are available for use, red colored computers are not turned on, and blue colored computer are in use. We are still adding labs to the program and should have them all in within the next week or so. The program is available 24/7. Not only is this information useful for students and staff, but it will allow ITS to determine if we need more computers or less computers in different locations. |
