Mobile Phones
The installation of GroupWise Mobile Server 2.0 will allow some cell phones to synchronize their North Central College email and their GroupWise calendar with their handheld smart phone. We are looking for volunteers to test the system. Below are the certified devices that are known to work with the GroupWise Mobile server. If you have a device listed below and would like to test our system please let us know by sending an email to the helpdesk@noctrl.edu

One-Card Update
There is an old saying that goes "The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry." That definitely describes this project. ITS staff have been working 16 to 20 hour days this past week in order to get the CBORD one-card system operational. The Townhomes, Ward, Patterson and Meily-Swallow will be operational on the new system today. The Science Center, Kiekhofer, the Fine Arts Center and Carnegie will be worked on in the following weeks. The switching out of the alarm panels ended up being extremely difficult because four different companies did the wiring and there was little uniformity. The end result will be that all the wiring will be standardized for the alarm panels when this project is complete. The new HID card readers have not been installed and will be installed at a later date.
The printer for the Photo ID system is literally on a slow boat from China. That printer was to be delivered last week and we will be lucky if it arrives the first week in September. After September 22 we will migrate to the new photo ID system. In the meantime,ITS has figured out how to move all the old photo ID's to the new system, so everyone's ID card will function as before. Student Life will use the old system to create photo IDs until the new photo ID system is operational. ITS will continue to run programs that will migrate the IDs created on the old system to the new system.
All the cash registers for Chartwells operations have been set up but they will not be installed until after September 1, to allow Chartwells to close out their year on their old BlackBoard system. Meal plans for students have also been set up. Follets's bookstore integration has been set up but will not be operational until we get everything else up and running properly.
As mentioned before, this is an enormous project that will take many months to complete. We will keep you updated on the progress.
T-1 Line Upgrade
The College upgraded its T-1 line capacity this week. The College now has the equivalent of 33 T-1 lines. In just ten years we have tripled our Internet capacity. The increased bandwidth was necessary because we were often using the bandwidth capacity that we had available. Today more and more Web use involves video, over the top TV, Internet radio, instant messaging, email, and downloading of files.
