DNS Cache-Poisoning Flaw
A weakness in the Internet's Domain Name System architecture was disclosed on July 8. The vulnerability gives malicious attackers a way to very quickly redirect Web traffic and e-mails to systems under their control. Virtually every domain name server that resolves IP addresses on the Internet is vulnerable to the flaw, as are client devices with embedded DNS software.
ITS has been working to patch our DNS servers. This process is tedious and has taken several days to patch. And not all of our vendors have released a patch. We will keep on top of these critical patches as they are released.
One-Card System
Several people have asked if we are going to get new ID cards. At this moment, I cannot answer that question. We are trying to retrieve the ID information from the Lennell system and will try to import that information to the new CBORD One Card System. If we are successful then there will not be a need to redo ID cards. Today we shipped sample ID cards to CBORD so they can determine how the information is laid out: mag stripe, bar code and proximity. In the meantime, ITS is working on a program to retrieve ID information from Lennell. We have been able to retrieve some information and now we will work with CBORD to see if we can import that information into their system.
Work has started on Carnegie to make the Computer Labs accessible 24/7. Suburban Lock is currently adding door strikes to the front and back doors. The computer labs in Carnegie will also have card readers on them. However the door in C211 is proving interesting. The hinge will need to be sent out to be electrified and that will take 3 weeks; that is because that door is like no other door on campus.
In addition, the MAC Lab in the FAC will also have card access. Work is progressing on that door. That lab will be equipped with 10 MACs with piano keyboards. It will also have a printer, SmartBoard and a projector.
Classroom Projectors
Tom Gill and I have walked all classrooms and seminar rooms on campus to determine if we can put a projector and computer in those rooms that do not have them. We have identified five classrooms/seminar rooms that do not have that type of equipment. It is our hope that these rooms will be equipped with projectors and computers by the start of classes this fall.
Media Carts
ITS has purchased new computers for the media carts on campus. We will be installing the new computers during the summer and hope to have all media carts upgraded before the start of the fall term.
