ITS UPDATE: Office 2007; GWAVA

Office 2007 Roll Out Tomorrow August 6
Tomorrow morning, September 6, ITS will be rolling out the new version of Microsoft Office Suite 2007 to the campus.  We will start pushing the software out between 8:15 am and 8:30 am.  However, the wait time before Office 2007 is installed on your PC make take up to an hour.  In addition, this software will take 1 Gig of space on your PC hard drive; it is huge and therefore will take significant time to load.  We are estimating that the install itself will take at least an hour.  After the software is installed you will click a Finish button which will reboot your computer and it will configure the PC for 2007; this process should take another 10 minutes.

We will also be rolling out the PDF add-in for Office Suite.  That will be pushed out in the afternoon.

You will be able to work on the Internet, view and respond to email, work with Datatel and Merlin etc. while the Office Suite is being installed.  Please do not use any Office Suite functions during the install.

We did not get all computers migrated to Windows XP as planned.  Those PCs that are on Windows 2000 will get a patch that will make Office 2003 work with Office 2007.  We will upgrade those operating systems as soon as we can; but our priority now is to make sure everything is ready for classes on Monday so we are concentrating on teaching stations and labs.

GWAVA
GWAVA has been doing an excellent job of not creating false positives and therefore, effective immediately, you will only  get GWAVA messages twice a day: at 9 am and at 3 pm.  If more than 50 spam have been blocked you will get two email messages.  Remember you can always click on "Manage My Quarantine" in the upper right hand corner of the GWAVA screen if you are interested in seeing details of what is blocked before those times.

ITS would like to thank all the volunteers that are identifying spam for us.  You input has allowed us to cut back the number of spam notices from GWAVA sooner than we had planned.
