E-card Virus
Think you got a cheery greeting card from a friend via email? NOT! Do not open it as it is most likely a virus. A new form of fake e-card greetings are unleashing viruses and virus-carrying Trojan horses.
This latest virus is more difficult for anti-virus software to detect because the notifications are using plain text in their messages, which don't get scanned by anti-virus software. While the emails don't contain links or attached files that you can open or click when they are delivered they are automatically converted to a link after the email recognizes a Web address.
Adding to the confusion and the seriousness of the problem, is that the perpetrators are sending these emails using the names of popular electronic greeting card companies. Although anti-virus companies have changed their software to stop these deliveries they found that last night the online criminals changed the way the virus is sent. It is a cat-and-mouse game for these people.
To avoid these problems, be cautious and do not click on links you find in e-mails. Instead, go directly to a Web site by typing its address into a Web browser and go there on their own, bypassing links that could be malicious.
