Windows XP Roll Out
As previously mentioned NCC will be migrating to Office 2007 for the fall term. Office 2007 requires Windows XP as the operating system on a computer; currently we run Windows 2000. And, Microsoft phased out support of Windows 2000. Unfortunately, ITS cannot roll out an operating system like we roll out new software. ITS staff will need to visit each and every of the more than 850 PCs on campus to install Windows XP. This will be a long, arduous task.
We will start the migration to Windows XP with full-time faculty as their PCs need to upgraded before the summer. Faculty PC upgrades to Windows XP will start week 2 and end week 9 of the spring term. Administration and staff PCs will be migrated after the faculty PCs have been upgraded to Windows XP. ITS will send out an email one week prior to our visit to an office/area asking you to back up your files. ITS staff will then visit you during the week and install Windows XP on your computer. A second group of ITS staff will then come by and clean up any outstanding problems.
We apologize for the inconvenience that this roll out will cause you. However, it is important that the College remain on current standards and have the ability to support faculty and staff with the software necessary to do their jobs. |
