ITS UPDATE: How to Protect Your Personal Information at Non NCCWireless Hot Spots

How to Protect Your Personal Information at Non-NCC Wireless Hot Spots

Wi-Fi hot spots are the latest rage.  Surf from anywhere, anytime.  Hot spots are public, open networks that use unencrypted, insecure connections and therefore may make you vulnerable to hackers.  To make your public surfing more secure follow these simple no cost tips:

  • Disable ad-hoc mode
  • Turn off file sharing
  • Turn off network discovery
  • Disable your wireless adaptor when not using it
  • Turn on your firewall
If you are running Windows XP consult your manual for instructions on how to turn off these services.
