Basic Technology Information
|
- Students are expected to use the College network in a manner
that is safe, legal and does not interfere with the operation
of the network.
- North Central College provides the Internet and the network
as a service to its students, but does not undertake to provide
continuous or uninterrupted network service. Interruptions may
occur in connection with maintenance or network infrastructure
problems. NCC at its discretion may discontinue the service or
any feature of it, limit its availability or reconfigure the network.
- NCC does not imply that the network will support all hardware
and software configurations.
- Students connect to the network at their own risk. NCC will
not be responsible for damage to or loss of hardware, software
or data stored in computers located on College property or connected
to the network. Users are advised to insure against loss or damage
resulting from connection to the network and use of network resources
as well as from breaches of computer security, fluctuations in
the electrical power supply, fire, theft and other causes.
- Students should take appropriate measures to configure and use
their own computers to ensure security and backup of important
data.
- Student users are restricted from all activities and behaviors
prohibited by the NCC Acceptable Use of Information Technology
Policy.
- Any misuse of the NCC network or violation of the Acceptable
Use of Technology Policy may result n the loss of network privileges
and referral to the Judicial Board for disciplinary action and/or
to authorities for legal action. Violation of city, state, or
federal laws and regulations may also result in seizure of computer
hardware and software, fines and/or imprisonment.
- Under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, electronic files
are treated like paper files.
- Student accounts are deleted after a term of inactivity. If
a student attends NCC every term (except summer) until graduation,
they will have the same accounts through out their NCC experience.
- Computing resources are provided for academic, research, and
administrative purposes.
- Every student has 10 MB of stored email space.
- Every student has 55 MB of network storage space.
- Every student has 10 MB of personal web space.
- The responsibility for the content of personal files, programs,
web pages and email rests solely with the individual and not with
the College.
