Informer now accessible from off-campus

Informer is an extremely useful tool for many people.  For faculty and staff that use Informer, it is now available from off campus.  Please use the same link to access Informer from on and off campus.

Blackboard to be Downed

ITS must move from the old version of Blackboard to the latest version of
Blackboard. During the migration to the new servers, Blackboard will not be available. Blackboard
will not be accessible on August 23 and 24.  Once the new version is up and running you can start
using it to prepare for fall classes.

Adobe Creative Suite

The College has negotiated an arrangement with Adobe to provide home editions of Creative Suite at substantially reduced cost.  This software is licensed for home use only.  Installing a home licensed version of this software on you office computer violates the software license agreement and puts you and the College at risk of prosecutions.  For this reason, we will not install a home version of Adobe Creative Suite on any campus computer, nor will we install a copy of software for which the College does not have a license.

Computer Roll Out Status; Windows 7 Training

Computer Roll Out Status

By the close of business today, the full-time teaching faculty portion of the computer roll-out project will be complete, with the exception of two computers.  Next week ITS will begin the second phase of the project to provide all staff and non-teaching faculty with new or newer computers.  We hope to have this portion of the project completed by August 15th. ITS will be replacing computers by department.

Card Access, UI 4.2, Red Condor

Card Access

The card access project is winding down.  The east doors of Goldspohn will be the last to be activated.  The delay is due to the special hardware that has been ordered but not delivered.  The following buildings now have card access: all residence halls, Carnegie, WONC, Goldsphon, Science Center, Old Main, Merner Field House, Res/Rec, Meiley-Swallow, FAC, and Kiekhofer.  Only people who have offices in a building can use their ID card to enter the building after hours.

UI 4.2

New Anti-Spam Software Test

At 10:00 AM today ITS began testing a new anti-spam solution called Red Condor. Red Condor offers greater flexibility for both IT system administrators and end-users.  Like GWAVA, emails that are known or suspected spam will be blocked and quarantined. Digests of these emails will be sent to your mailbox daily at 12:30 AM from the sender "Daily Digest spamdetector@noctrl.edu."  You can view/release messages directly from this digest, or you can login to your personal dashboard to release valid messages. The Red Condor anti-spam appliance should be more efficient at identifying real spam and result in fewer false positives than GWAVA. However, if you find that legitimate email addresses are still being blocked, you can ensure delivery by adding these to a whitelist (called friends) via your personal dashboard at redcondor.noctrl.edu.

On Sunday, May 15th, ITS will be installing a new storage enclosure to our virtual machine infrastructure as well as updating the firewall.  The planned outage will occur between 2 PM and 4 PM. In order to install the enclosure and update the firewall we must bring down every virtual machine, this means the following will be unavailable on May 15th between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM

All mapped drives (F, W, N etc...)
Web access
Outgoing and incoming email delivery
Email on mobile devices
Printing
Windows 7 computers

Synch Your GroupWise Calendar to Your Smart Phone

Currently you can access your NCC email from your Smart Phone.  The access for email is via IMAP and SMPT port 587; however, this access does not allow you to synchronize your GroupWise calendar with your cell phone.  To resolve this issue ITS has installed a product called GroupWise Data Synchronizer Mobility Pack.   This new application allows you to create/view appointments on either GroupWise or your cell phone.
