McAfee anti-virus software

Computer Viruses-How To Limit Your Risk
North Central College students, faculty and staff have been
exceptionally fortunate on campus in terms of computer viruses
and we would like to keep it that way. You can reduce your
risk of a virus on your PC by:
- Being leery of any attachment, especially those ending
with a '.vbs' extension
- Opening attachments with a viewer when possible as the
viewer offers additional protections against viruses
- Storing important files using network file space, your
F-Drive. These network systems, at least for faculty and
staff, are backed up each night and thus can be restored
in the case of a problem.
- Keeping your virus protection software on your home computer
up-to-date. On campus, we use McAfee on the servers to protect
the network.
If you detect a virus on yours, or any campus computer, e-mail
the North Central College Help Desk immediately at helpesk@noctrl.edu
or call ext. 5440. The computer's life you save may be your
own.
